The House of MacDuff is an imprint of Cumbrae Supply, a family-owned bottling company in the west of Scotland that has a keen eye for a special dram. Whether a fine single malt, a rare rum, or a carefully crafted gin, they are experts in sourcing, ageing and bottling an array of spirits.
Rydo has been consulting with House of MacDuff for over a decade on their brand positioning, visual identity and product packaging. In that time, the company has gone from having a very limited UK retail presence, to being stocked by high profile outlets including the Whisky Shop.
House of MacDuff’s flagship single cask range, The Golden Cask, features traditional, hand drawn imagery that provides unique character whilst retaining a clear relationship with the parent brand. The identity and packaging for the small batch blended malt, Selkie, is consistent with Golden Cask and the House of MacDuff but distinctive as a result of its beautiful imagery — provided by Italy’s Malleus Art Rock Lab — that combines the stylings of art nouveau and graphic novels. The sophisticated appearance of Fifty/50/Gin is matched by its indelible flavour. While looking and smelling very much like a scotch whisky, the taste possesses all the botanics and floral notes that form the basis of any respectable gin.
