Power Networks Demonstration Centre
(PNDC) is a unique, collaborative research and development venture founded by the University of Strathclyde, SP Energy Networks and Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution. The facility was opened in May 2012 at an event attended by representatives of the partner organisations, the Scottish Government and other figures from the electricity industry.
Due to the collaborative nature of the PNDC model, and the numerous stakeholders involved, it was important to develop an identity that could stand on its own. The aim was to present an independent entity that was also complimentary to the activities of the centre’s partners, utilities companies and educators alike. The PNDC brand is based on familiar imagery associated with electricity: positive and negative symbols, circuit diagram lamps and — when some movement is introduced — turbines. Illuminated three-dimensional letterforms for the opening day stage set, large scale interior graphics and a striking copper-toned colour palette complete the suite of PNDC brand assets.
